Skylar Grey CCLXXV :: “Invisible” Music Video Reactions+Hip-Hollywood BMI Interview | Video

The full-length video for “Invisible” dropped online earlier today (September 8), and the first wave of response to the video has found its way online, with Rap-Up also releasing a short statement from Ms. Grey about the reason for her INVINSIBLE album’s release being moved from November 2011 to January 2012. Read excerpts of what various critics and websites had to say below, and click their headlines to view their full-length articles.

ArjanWrites – The Story Behind Grey’s “Invisible” ::
“….high above the streets of downtown Los Angeles, a new musical dare devil appears and her name is Skylar Grey. Check out the rising new pop singer balancing high in the sky while performing her excellent new single “Invisible” that is taken from her much anticipated debut LP, titled “Invinsible” (a clever pairing of “invisible” and “invincible”)….Skylar talks more about the theme of the video in new press release. “I wanted it to be Peter Parker by day meets Spiderman by night,” she says. An everyday kid who isn’t really that cool but there’s something else going on that people don’t know about.  That’s kind of the journey that I went on. I discovered that my insecurities and my flaws were things that I actually need to embrace, and I let them become my superpowers….

Instinct Magazine – World Premiere of Grey’s “Invisible” ::
“….she surely doesn’t need it, but for the brand-spank-us-new music video for “Invisible, rising songstress Skylar Grey employs the same diffused lens Barbara Walters seems to demand to be shot in during the new season of The View….the ethereal music video is the perfect match for the otherworldly single….”

Idolator – Grey Lights Up in New Video ::
“….after teasing her “Invisible” video with a handful of stills, Skylar Grey unveiled the dramatic Jay Martin-directed clip today. In it, the Women About To Pop-featured artist steps onto a steel beam suspended over a city street, walks into traffic and then ultimately sets herself ablaze with a lighter. This isn’t your usual “Firework”/“Who Says” feel-good video. Given the personal (and relatable) subject matter, Alex Da Kid’s infectious hip hop beat and the song’s sure-to-be-controversial music video, we can certainly picture “Invisible” garnering enough buzz to finally push Skylar through to solo star status….”

PopCrush – Grey Feels “Invisible” in New Video ::
“….Grey feels ‘Invisible’ in her new music video, even as she goes to great lengths to be seen….the slow-motion clip begins with Grey standing atop a skyscraper as she sings about trying hard to make people see the real her….there’s no happy ending here. Grey just feels alone, a universal emotion that will probably have many viewers feeling her pain….”

Ace Showbiz – Grey Embraces Insecurity ::
“….Grey is embracing her insecurity instead of fighting it in her newly-premiered music video for her official first single “Invisible”. It shows a broody-looking Skylar as she walks through the crowd. She, however, finds her solace when standing tall on an iron bar hanging by a construction crane while overlooking the city below her….”

Rap-Up – Skylar Grey’s “Invisible” Video ::
“….Grey goes up in flames in the powerful video for “Invisible, the first single from her debut Invinsible, which has been delayed from November to January. “There’s some things that I wanted to add to the album, but I haven’t had time because I’ve been traveling so much doing promo in Europe,” she told Rap-Up.com. “So I just need a minute to do more of that and come back and finish….

Hip-Hollywood has also released a short interview video shot on the BMI Urban Awards red carpet last month (August), talking about Marilyn Manson’s involvement in the naming of the debut Skylar Grey record.
