The BIG List: 66 Most Important Hip-Hop Songs of 2011 | VIBE ::
“I Need A Doctor” – Dr. Dre Feat. Eminem and Skylar Grey

Remember when you actually thought Detox was going to drop? Yeah, us neither. Yet the optimistic ones pointed to this Alex Da Kid-produced record—and it’s budget-breaking music video—as proof of an imminent Dre release.

“Words I Never Said” – Lupe Fiasco Feat. Skylar Grey

After nearly two years of sitting on the shelf, Lupe Fiasco decided to record a single raising 9/11 conspiracies, criticizing the Gaza strip bombings and calling the war on terror “a bunch of bullshit.” Well played, sir.

Skylar Grey CCCLXVI :: Year-End Lists, XXL+MTV+Zimbio+USA Today

With the end of 2011 nearing, Ms. Grey has earned mentions in several year-end lists and charts – check out several by XXL Magazine, MTV, Zimbio, and USA Today below!

XXL Magazine has published its list of its picks for the Top 100 Songs of 2011, with “Words I Never Said” (Lupe Fiasco feat. Skylar Grey) and “I Need A Doctor” (Dr. Dre feat. Skylar Grey & Eminem) both making the list! You may view each tracks placement in the list below, and also click the title to view the full list and vote for your pick for the Top Song of 2011!

Top 100 Songs of 2011 | XXL ::
33. Dr. Dre ft. Eminem and Skylar Grey “I Need A Doctor”

41. Lupe Fiasco. ft. Skylar Grey “Words I Never Said”

VH1 has published MTV’s list of the Best EDM Artists of 2011 – Kaskade came in at Number 8, with Ms. Grey earning a mention for her collaboration with Kaskade, “Room For Happiness”!

Best EDM Artists of 2011 | MTV ::
“….Kaskade watched as his 2011 studio album, Fire & Ice, quickly became a staple in a healthy EDM diet. With features from Skrillex and Dada Life, and even vocals from rising star Skylar Grey, you’d be hard-pressed to find music lovers who couldn’t identify with or enjoy his breezy music in one way or another….”

Online magazine Zimbio has also released its picks for the Best Electronica Songs of 2011, with Kaskade’s official remix of the current Skylar Grey single “Invisible” making it on the list at Number 8!

Best Electronica Songs of 2011 | Zimbio ::
“….she’s been nominated for a Grammy, collaborated with Dr. Dre and Lupe Fiasco, and appeared alongside the Dalai Lama. And yet, despite all her success, few people could actually spot Skylar Grey if she walked by them on the street. Of course, her relative anonymity didn’t stop heavyweight DJs like Kaskade and Dirty South from remixing her first single, “Invisible. The result: seven minutes of bass heavy bliss….”

Finally, USA Today enlisted electronic producer Moby, DJ Scott Henry, and Billboard-writer Keith Caulfield to pick the most spin-worthy electronic artists of the year – once again Ms. Grey gains a mention within the write-up for Caulfield’s artist pick, Kaskade.

Spin-Worthy Electronic Artists | USA Today ::
“….the double CD Fire & Ice, includes collaborations with Neon Trees, Skylar Grey and Skrillex. In July, Kaskade (aka 40-year-old Ryan Raddon) tweeted that he’d be DJing at a block party ahead of the L.A. film premiere of the documentary Electric Daisy Carnival Experience. So many fans showed up that the party was shut down and riots ensued….”

MTV’s Newsroom also did a write-up on several of the Day 2 (August 6) Lollapalooza acts – read the Skylar Grey section of the write-up below, and click the photo to view the full article.

Lollapalooza Day 2 – Skylar Grey | MTV Newsroom ::
“….first on the list was hip-hop’s current go-to hook queen, Skylar Grey. In her first major appearance since blowing up thanks to her vocals on Dr Dre’s “I Need a Doctor, singer/songwriter Grey is clearly read to go out on her own. (She would join pal Eminem later in the night during his headlining set.)

With a haunting, gothy vibe, Grey came out wearing a ragged white hoodie that hung in shreds like a ghost shawl down to her ankles, accented by combat boots, army pants and a white sports bra that showed off her impossibly thin belly. She was all aggression and angst, at one point neck-tackling her guitarist.

Her moody rock tunes, which balanced programmed beats with live playing, combined anxiety and empowerment (“Monster,” “Beautiful Nightmare”), showing off her crisp, high vocals and the plainspoken songwriting slated for her upcoming major-label debut. Part Alanis Morissette and part Dido, the songs struck a balance between vulnerability and no B.S. strength. The self-professed “f—ing weirdo” also played a snippet of Radiohead’s “Creep” before busting into her own tune about being a super freak, “Weirdo.….”

And finally, Idolator (who just Ms. Grey as one of their 2011′s Top 11 Women About To Pop) has also released several photos from her August 6 live performance. Read their comments below, and click the photo to view the full 8-photo set!

Grey Performs A Monster Set | Idolator ::
“….Grey stepped on the Lollapalooza stage for perhaps her biggest solo public performance yet, and the moody singer-songwriter whom we believe is about to pop certainly didn’t disappoint. Clad in a white sports bra and her signature combat boots, the Invinsible woman knocked out “Monster” and “Beautiful Nightmare”, and even played a clip of Radiohead’s classic “Creep” before her own ode to kookiness, “Weirdo”. (She would later return to help headliner Eminem with “I Need A Doctor”). Check our exclusive photos of Skylar’s performance…. “
